In my mission to continually feed myself with God’s Word, I’ve so far read through 1 Peter.. It’s been a good read on the train each morning of a weekday… weekends tend to be more of a struggle and something I need to work on…
I thought for this book, I’d share with you several verses throughout the book that stood out to me whilst I was reading…
Chapter 1, verses 3 & 4:- born again to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled & unfading, guarded by God’s power
This verse is such a great confidence booster. To know that by putting faith in God, we are given access to such an inheritance which is protected by God is a fantastic reassurance. If you haven’t yet entrusted your faith in God and Jesus, then I encourage you to explore the possibilities…
Chapter 1, verse 8:- joy that is inexpressible & filled with glory.
There are a few times in the Bible where they talk about joy, which I’ve found quite a hard thing to get my head around… This verse doesn’t make it any easier, but it sounds like an awesome thing….
Chapter 1, verse 14:- do not conform to passions of former ignorance. As he who called you is holy, you also be holy.
Quite a tough call, not to continue in the former passions, but to be holy…
Chapter 1, verse 22:- love one another earnestly from a pure heart.
Sounds like such an amazing love… If only we could display and receive such love from all people everyday….
Chapter 2, verse 2:- Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk.
such a great metaphor, and something we definitely need to do, hence the reason for these posts!!
Chapter 2, verse 7:- They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
Quite a disturbing verse… The fact that there’s people out there who will never know God’s love because they’re destined not to…. I really feel sorry for these people…
Chapter 4, verse 1:- Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.
I know it doesn’t feel like it when we do fall back into the temptation and/or actions of sin, but take assurance in this verse!!
Chapter 5, verses 6 & 7:- Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
My o my, what a reassuring verse, that God, the creator and sustainer of all things will take onboard all of my anxieties because he cares for little olde me….
