Second book down with only 3 chapters in 2 Peter… The book has a fairly nice structural order to it, from my reading…. First off, it encourages and exhorts its readers to make sure that their faith is sound, then it warns of those that distort and corrupt the truth; those false prophets and teachers who wish to mislead people… And then finally it runs through what will happen to those that are faithful and those that are not on the Day of The Lord.

Of particular encouragement to me was

Chapter 1, verses 5-8:- For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Chapter 3 was pretty strange, unusual, neat and also terrifying in what is said and here’s some examples of that

Chapter 3, verses 4-6:- They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation. For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished.

Chapter 3, verses 10-12 :- But then the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and then heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!
