Bitter-Sweet

Ah, my dear angry Lord,
Since thou dost love, yet strike;
Cast down, yet help afford;
Sure I will do the like.

This morning whilst flicking through Desiring God I came across this poem:

Bitter-Sweet

Ah, my dear angry Lord,
Since thou dost love, yet strike;
Cast down, yet help afford;
Sure I will do the like.

I will complain, yet praise;
I will bewail, approve;
And all my sour-sweet days
I will lament and love.

by George Herbert

I think it’s fantastic!! It fits in well with the studies I’ve been writing and leading in Bible study over the last couple of weeks on Zephaniah. This old testament prophetic book speaks of the LORDs anger and judgement against Judah, the surrounding nations and all of creation, but also speaks about the restoration of His chosen people.
