I’m a bit of a movie fan, but in the last little while I’ve been rather disappointed with the selection of movies playing in the theatres, but as I looked through some trailers last night, I was happily surprised with several upcoming movies. So here’s a list of movies coming out in the next few months I’m keen to see
A highly stylised film from the great team behind the 300 and Watchmen. This film looks amazingly beautiful and over-the-top. From what I can gather from the trailer the story seems to tell of a girl who is institutionalised and tries to break out using an alternate fantasy reality to plan and plot her escape route, along with four other inmate. Due to hit cinemas on April 7th.
Yet another movie in the ‘series’ about fast cars and crime, this looks cool. Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock looks absolutely massive!!! The over-the-top stunts and driving feats in high-end, expensive, done-up cars is always a good draw-card. Due in cinemas on April 21
Thor is the Norse God of Thunder, who is cast out of the realm of Asgard to Earth. This film looks ridiculously over the top, but it’s a stepping stone to the Avengers movie which is due out next year. Also due in cinemas on April 21
X-Men: First Class
It’s X-Men, but one from back when Xavier (Professor-X) and Erik (Magneto) were young men learning about their mutant powers and learning to control them. The split between Professor X and Magneto always been an interesting and secluded story, which this film should hopefully shed some light on.
Arrives on June 2nd.
The Big Bang Club
An interesting looking film which looks at the lives of four combat photographers as they shot during the violence of the first free elections in post-Apartheid South Africa in the early 90s. Having seen images and heard from a couple of photographers that have worked as war photographers, I think this will be both an inspiring and twisted film showing the brokenness of this world.
Ryan Reynolds stars as a Green Lantern, a galactic defender bestowed with a power ring that give him powers. Green Lantern is a ‘lesser-known’ hero from the DC Comics world, the same world that brings Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. It’s interesting to see Reynolds in this role, seeing as he’s already played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Blake Lively of Gossip Girl fame is also starring. Due out on June 16th.
Transformers: Dark Of The Moon
The third in the series, I’m looking forward to see what they do with the mechanical transformations and how they try to weave the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons into the moon landing. Rosie Huntington-Whitely; gorgeous model is starring alongside the cast, sans Megan Fox. Due out on the 30th June.
Captain America: The First Avenger
Another movie in the lead up to the Avengers Movie, Captain America looks to be a great movie, as patriotic American as it may be. It is a movie about Steve Rogers and his transformation into Captain America through a top secret research project involvingSuper Soldier Serum. Due for release on July 28th.
A dark comedy in the same vein as “Kick-Arse”, where a “loser” goes and re-invents himself as a super hero. Looks awesomely funny, sarcastic and silly. C great looking cast of Kevin Bacon, Liv Tyler and Ellen Page. Couldn’t find an Australian release date for this via Event Cinemas, so not sure when we’ll see it down here, if at all. American release is due for the 1st of April, although it has already done a circuit of film festivals in Canada and Italy.
