This week has been a better one for me… I’m feeling better, thanks for those who have been praying…
Monday night at growth group we looked at prayer, specifically the Lord’s prayer from Luke 11. There were a few interesting topics that came up, including prayer to Jesus and The Holy Spirit.
The remainder of the week was a good ramp up of work and ‘stress’, the good kind of having a good goal to achieve and not the bad stress of confrontation. The stress was for the first Crossway parenting conference by the name of IMPRESS which we ran yesterday. Attendance was good, with roughly 80 parents and 80 kids attending. The parents were addressed by Adrian Russell, Bruce Linton and Bruce Hall on teaching their kids the bible, impressing it upon them; as instructed in Deuteronomy 6, how to lead your family spiritually, and how to be a dad. The kids also looked at Deuteronomy 6 and played a board game that was made by Bruce Linton, which all families got to take a copy home with them.
Thursday night I got to sit down with my flatmates and read some bible; this week we looked at 1 Corinthians 3. It was a real struggle to understand it and come to some good solid conclusions together, especially the parts about reward. I think the main point of the chapter highlights the fact that God is the one we are to follow, He is the one that matters.
Post Thursday night bible, I had every intention of heading out to Rouse Hill to purchase a New iPad from Big W at their midnight launch, however, when we eventually finished up, I read that there was about 40 people in the line, and decided against it. A little later, I heard that the were roughly 150 people out there, and only 120 New iPads being sold, roughly 5 of each model and colour. So I ended up just heading to bed with an early wake up so that I could head out to the Apple Store in Castle Hill early in the morning to queue up. When I finally made it out there at 5:30am, I was 20th in the line of about 250 people… During the wait I managed to get a bit of designery work done on my Macbook Air. The purchase phase of the experience was super quick, taking a couple of minutes only. The setup took another 5-10 minutes, and then I hung around the store utilising their wi-fi to download a whole bunch of apps.
This morning, as I didn’t have my 1-2-1 with Nic, I decided to head out on a church visit, making my way all the way out to Beacon Hill Holy Trinity Anglican, where Rick Mason is now the minister. They had a baptism service there, with a few visitors and guests. Rick spoke from Philippians 3:1-11, explaining how Paul put no confidence in himself, despite every reason to, rather he put his confidence in Jesus, calling those non-Christians present to give their lives over to Christ as their Lord and saviour. It was also good to catch up with both Rick and Ronnie who used to be around at 7:15 church, as well as see their three boys Angus, Pete and Jamie. In the afternoon, after a quick nap, I headed out to Grant Thornton Reserve to play some touch football with my sister, brother-in-law, and some of their church friends. It was a good fun game, but with plenty of running from side to side as I tried to make, and get through, some holes in their defense…
Tonight Mike preached on the depressing book of defeats: Judges which is the tales of Israel and their temporary leaders as they continue in a downward spiral. We were challenged and encouraged to walk in the way of the Lord.
