Semi-Permanent 2015 – Day 1

I got along to Semi-Permanent today for the 13th year in a row, to catch some inspiration and insight into the wonderfully creative world of design.

We heard plenty of amazing talks from Ben Quilty, Rhys Gorgol from The Company You Keep, Beci Orpin, Wired by Design hosted by Billy Sorrentino featuring Scott Dadich, Bjarke Ingels, & Natasha Jen, Portable Panel with Simon Goodrich, Rodney Eggleston, Kerry Walker, & Ewan McEoin, Murray Fredericks and Dav Rauch from IDEO.

There were 2 stand out talks for me from today:

Bjarke Ingels

Founding Partner at BIG
He was supposed to be in the country, but a visa mixup meant that he wasn’t able to make it, but we got a personal video message and a video of his talk at the original Wired by Design (WxD) from the Skywalker Ranch. There was just so much amazing innovation and out-of-the-box thinking, plus he sounds terribly like Arnie.

Murray Fredericks

Photographer at Murray Fredericks
The imagery that this guy produces is absolutely breath-taking!!! Shooting Lake Eyre for over 10 years, and then Greenland and a whole host of other amazing places, Murray talked to us about working within constraints. Keep an eye out for a video of his talk here on CHONGLAND

Back at it tomorrow, where I’m most looking forward to hearing Askew One.
