Upon arrival, I found the place fairly busy and buzzing, but managed to be seated inside on the bench after a shot wait. After a long perusal of the menu, I settled upon grabbing the pour over Panama Typica Don Tito Reseva Lavado with tasting notes of sweet candy, cinnamon spice, soft florals and rosehip jam. Owner Kevin himself brought it over and gave me a brief run-down on how to consume, recommending a small sample of it whilst it was hot, before letting it cool down, settle and evolve, explaining that it changes taste as it cools.
There are so many yummy items on the menu that it’s hard to choose what to eat, but I had pre-conceived ideas after seeing their version of the bacon and egg roll: Porky Pig’s Hotteok – honey jam pancake sandwich with bacon, poached egg, spicy quacamole, rocket & mango habanero mayo. What an amazing version of the B&E roll this is. A real treat to the senses with sweet, bitter, creamy, spicy, salty sensations all coming with each different element. Whilst it didn’t look like a big serving, I was well full by the time I’d finished this.
To go with my food, I went with one of their cold brews – the Brewmonade: filtered water dripped through ground coffee, then mixed with lemonade to produce a light, refreshing drink.
After finishing this little combo, it was back to the pour over, which had changed it’s spots, with a spicier, richer flavour.
It was a pleasant trip out to Brewristas, the staff are friendly, and passionate about their coffee, and sharing their knowledge. Food is reasonably priced, at under $15 a dish, and their drinks menu is very extensive. If it weren’t so far away, I’d be there as much as I could.

I’ve been attending Semi-Permanent ever since it’s inaugural conference way back in 2003. At some point during that time I started videoing some of the speakers that interested me, and am now starting to get those up online.
