Well this week has been pretty good, though I’ve not been doing as as much as I should be doing.
Don’t you go and let the World weigh you down
Should you ever fall, I’m gonna be around
Pick you up, keep you away from harm
Free from all the stress and safe within my arms
Take the weight and help you ease the pain
When The Day is done, then we shall be one
Last night I got along to see and hear the spectacular Shapeshifter play The Metro Theatre. If you’ve not heard of Shapeshifter then you’re definitely missing out. They’re a New ZealandRiddim Wise LP, Solstice and Shapeshifter Live which was recorded with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
When I arrived about 10:30 there was a bit of a lineup to get in, but it moved quite quickly and once inside the actual theatre I could see it was to be a good night as it was absolutely packed, but that also meant that it would be difficult to find people I knew there….
After a number of phone calls and sms, I finally worked out where Rob and Em were and ventured over to enjoy the night with them, out of the pit and up on the elevated section…. I wasn’t able to find Julie and her crew until after leaving for the night….
When Shapeshifter finally were ready to play, the lights dropped out to some atmospheric sounds there to pump the crowd up, ringing out for a good minute slowly building up, in tune with the crowds’ excitement, finally peaking at the bands appearance.
Their performance was absolutely amazing, taking things to an entirely new level consistently for close to 2 hours running through new tracks and some old favourites including:
- Bring Change
- Long White Cloud
- Electric Dream
At the end of their set, they told us how much they loved Sydney and then exited stage right, only to be greeted with shouts, cheers and chants for and encore which they basked in for a time before coming out to throw down a combination of tracks, finishing with the anthemic, haunting and reassuring One; a personal favourite with Christian undertones thrown throughout the lyrics, feeling almost spiritual at times. Well worth the dollars spent, and an enjoyable night out overall. Make sure you check them out at EVERY opportunity you get!! In the meantime, they’ve several CDs for sale; those generally readily available are Riddim Wise LP, Soulstice and Shapeshifter Live.
