Passage: Exodus 1:1-2:25

So this is the start of the next epic in the bible, the story of Moses.

We see the wrap up of the story of Jacob and Joseph, for now, but we also see the continuation of God’s promises and plans for His people. We see them continue to multiply and subdue the land that God put them in, despite hardships and slavery.
We see people faithful to God, denying the instruction and commands of even the King of Egypt, who wanted all the male babies killed.

So Moses is born in spite of the king’s commands, and uncannily is brought up to be adopted by the king’s daughter. After a time, he sympathises with the Israelites and after killing an Egyptian slave-master, he flees the country, marries into a family, and waits out the king’s death.

What’s amazing and reassuring is that God hears the cries of His people, He remembers His promises, and He feels sorry for them.
